"All dietitians are nutritionist but not all nutritionists are dietitians." A registered dietitian (RD) is fully credentialed health care professional that requires a degree, supervised clinical training, and a licensing exam. Dietitians are regulated by law. They can create evidence-based, personalized nutrition plans and support medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, digestive disorders, eating disorders, PCOS, weight management and more. For these reasons, dietitians, like us are able to be in-network providers and accept insurance. Our whole team is made up of registered dietitians. If you are searching for trusted, science-based guidance → go with a dietitian from our team! You can feel rest assured that you are in the right hands and that your healthcare is our number one priority.
On the other hand, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. There is no accreditation and no licensure associated with being a nutritionist. Nutritionist cannot accept insurance either. At Long Island Nutritionist we use the term 'nutritionist' interchangeably in our business name only because it is more commonly used than 'dietitian' by the average person.
Long Island Nutritionist offers an individualized approach for each patient therefore the frequency and number of nutrition sessions really depends on your personal goals, your specific health goals, any relevant disease states and their current stage of management at the time of your initial consultation. Generally, patient's achieve better results when seen more frequently (once a week) as they are held more accountable and mindful. However, depending on the patient's personality, level of motivation, and budget we will work with you weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly, depending upon your needs. This approach provides an opportunity to work with you during real life eating situations that arise over time including holidays, birthdays, restaurant dining, weddings, vacations and more. As described, some patients need more follow-up than others — while the frequency varies from client to client, our dedication to you and your needs to achieve your goals are consistent.

In rare cases, there are costs associated with using insurance such as a small co-pay (~$25 on average). If your insurance requests a copay, we will reach out to you personally and you will be responsible for its payment at that time.
We also offer private pay services if your insurance does not cover sessions, please visit our "Services" tab and scroll down to "Insurance and Fees" for more information.
If we are out of network, we can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your specific out-of-network benefits on your policy.
